Three Competitions
The Chamberlain wrote:
To the Acknowledged Cainites of the greater Yorkshire Barony,
This coming gathering heralds three exciting competitions for our kind. These competitions had been planned as events at our most recent gathering, but, sadly, events conspired to prevent your Chamberlain from supervising them at that time. Those interested in competing should inform the Chamberlain or one of his representatives (in Scarborough) before our next gathering, though entrants will be accepted up to the formal commencement of the competitions.
It would, of course, be tragic, if the Cainites of Yorkshire lacked the mettle, dauntlessness, or ambition, to prove themselves in these contests.
Competition the First: A Contest of Might
This competition will test the brawn and physical skills of any brave Cainites interested in proving themselves. The competition will not involve the mere trading of blows among entrants; however, entrants may risk harm to themselves in the course of the competition. So as to ensure fairness of this competition, no further details will be revealed until the commencement of the contest.
Competition the Second: A Contest of Beauty
This competition will test the artistry and aesthetic skills of any graceful Cainites interested in proving themselves. The competition will be open with respect to form. Entrants may perform poetry, oration, or music; they may present statuary, paintings, tapestry, or any other piece of artistry they wish. The Chamberlain and a small panel of judges will adjudicate the most successful entrant.
Competition the Third: A Contest of Cunning
This competition will test the perceptiveness and investigative skills of any discerning Cainites interested in proving themselves. Those who believe themselves to be well informed are often misled. Those who believe themselves to know the full extent of the story often know only the surface details. Any participating Cainite shall meet privately with the Chamberlain, and demonstrate their capacity to separate fact from fiction, as well as their ability to uncover the details beyond what is evident on the surface.
In addition to acclaim for victory at these competitions, further rewards will be presented, provided that the victorious Cainites distinguish themselves appropriately.
